Clean session end. Capture knowledge, sync the workspace, clear your head for next time.
After every finished terminal session. And in the evening when you close out the day. Even if the chat on top stays open, the terminal gets a /shutdown every time.
Workspace is pushed to GitHub. Everything you did today is safe.
Daily Log. One file per day at meetings/daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md (the path may differ on your end). At the first shutdown of the day, the file gets created. At every following shutdown, it's checked whether it already exists and the new entry gets appended.
By end of day, you have a full summary of every single session you shut down today. In words, not in commits.
HISTORY.md. In the workspace root at HISTORY.md, chronological across all days. Three to five bullet points per session.
Relevant insights move into persistent memory. So the next chat knows them, even if you say nothing.
If the workspace structure changed, new commands appeared, or new skills got activated, CLAUDE.md gets updated.
After the last terminal shutdown, you keep going at the top of the desktop app.
Tomorrow you start clean from zero. No old context, no clutter, no half-finished threads. Fresh head, fresh session.
Three reasons: don't let the context window overflow, be able to start from zero every day, knowledge safely stored in Markdown files. Without shutdown, open chats pile up, the context window gets sluggish, and eventually you forget what you built last week. With shutdown, everything is over there: in files, in Git, in memory.
